Gay romance games aren’t common and well-loved, particularly in the video game industry. Although some gamers have claimed that gay characters aren’t essential or beneficial yet, it’s clear that games featuring LGBT characters can raise awareness about the LGBT community and help promote tolerance. Additionally, they allow players to develop a character with more depth and give players an experience they might not have experienced as children.

Several games have included gay, lesbians, bisexuals or transgender romances. Some of these games are highly well-respected. The Jade Empire, a game developed by BioWare which offered a variety of possibilities for a relationship with a same-sex partner and was among the first. Sky and Silk Fox were both able to romance either gender. This was a major improvement for a Chinese Fantasy game of the day.
