The organizers of the 11th Gay Games, which will take place in Hong Kong this year, wanted to host a grand event that would bring in money and position Hong Kong to the world as a tolerant, vibrant destination willing to welcome LGBT visitors at a time where the country is squeezing down on every form of sexuality and gender identity. The Games are now in a somewhat less than they had hoped for, because of numerous bureaucratic obstacles.

But, most participants have expressed appreciation and satisfaction with the occasion in a post-event poll. In a post-event poll, participants expressed a general sense of satisfaction and joy. They also stated that the Games were memorable and life-changing experiences. While there has been some acknowledgement of the issues however, there remains an unwavering desire to be able to participate in the next Games which will be held in Valencia in 2026.
